Early Spring BJCWF Update

Hello members!

Just a brief update for you on what's happening at BJCWF. As you are aware, our tenth year of grantmaking has begun!

Our grant process is moving forward right on schedule. Thanks to our many members who read 70 letters of intent! We invited 26 organizations to submit full proposals, which were due on February 3rd. The 2010 process is being led by grant committee Chairs Mady Donoff and Leslie Gaffin and subcommittee co-Chairs Harriet Kantrowitz, Maxine Rosenthal, Melinda Berman, Betsy Epstein, Barbara Targum, and Rebekah Kaufman.

And here's proof we're hard at work already! Here in this larger picture above, we have Fran Feldman, Fund Chair Margo Newman and Sonia Michaelson at the training session for new readers, which was held on February 2nd. And the smaller photo features Grants Co-Chair Mady Donoff with Grant Subcommittee Chair Betsy Epstein at the same meeting.

If you have not signed up for a committee yet, and would like to, contact Susan Ebert at SusanE@CJP.org. It's not too late!

We continue to grow our rosters and are pleased to welcome seven new members who have joined the Fund since last fall. They are: Leah Berk (lrberk@gmail.com), Alice Cutler (alicut@comcast.net), Fran Feldman (fyfeldman@gmail.com), Linda Gelb (lgelb@att.net), Louise Loewenstein (lloewenstein@comcast.net), Lauren Rubin (bunda@comcast.net), and Myra Zisk (myramortzisk@aol.com).

As always, we are looking for new members to share in our good works. Most new members are brought in though other members, so if you know of someone who you think would be a good match for the BJCWF, consider inviting her to the next event or direct her to this blog, where she can learn more about what we do.

Our new Lunch and Learn program series has been very well received and attended by members. At the December Lunch and Learn, staff and boar members of The Victim Rights Law Center presented the work of this amazing group which assists victims in the aftermath of sexual assault. VRLC is the first group in the country solely dedicated to these needs. Their unique model of civil intervention in rape cases has become a national model. We are proud to have supported their efforts through our grants the last two years.

Our next Lunch and Learn is at the Jewish Women's Archive in Brookline on Tuesday, March 16th from noon to 1:30pm. The address is 138 Harvard Street in Brookline. Lunch will be available for $10. Their program, Bat Mitzvah Interactive, is our first long-term grantee. Please RSVP to Susan at SusanE@CJP.org if you plan on attending. Hope to see you there!

Before you know it, it will be June! Mark your calendars for our annual celebration, which will be held on Tuesday evening, June 1st. Laurel Friendman has graciously invited us to join her at her home in Brookline to mark the completion of our 10th grant cycle. Look for the formal invitation in the spring!

Thank you for your membership, interest, and involvement in BJCWF. We can't do our fine work without you!

Best,
Margo Newman
